Health and Safety

We're proud to have the best approach to health, safety and environmental management (HSE) in the New Zealand industry and work to achieve the highest international standards regardless of country or location. Over the last five years, we've driven huge improvements in this area, driven by our goal of 'no injuries or harm to anyone'. It's one of the things that helps us attract and retain the best people.

Health and Safety standards

Working internationally we comply fully with the laws and regulations in each country. In addition, we follow MB Century's own HSE Management Systems and Policy framework. This is based on the Australian, New Zealand Standard (ASNZ 4801). This is a recognised and highly regarded OH&S management system that supplements the legal requirements and meets the following Standards:

  • International Standard OHSAS – 18001 Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems

  • ASNZ Standard - 4360 - Risk Management

  • ASNZ Standard - 9001 - Quality Management Systems & ISO9001 – 2015

  • ASNZ Standard - 14001 – Environmental Management Systems & ISO 14001

We conduct regular internal and external audits of our HSE processes and always look to proactively work beyond mere compliance. We also engage with our customers in ongoing dialogue to ensure HSE is always front of mind and that no issues or opportunities to improve are being missed.

Risk mitigation

We are committed to Health and Safety for all employers and contractors and have a robust HSE system.

We understand that safety and safety-related risk mitigation are essential elements to a successful project outcome. Accordingly, a huge emphasis is applied to these elements in all activities, including design through safety in design.

We are currently moving our focus away from the management of lag indicators, towards driving lead indicators and focusing on health and safety behaviour – a self-awareness and risk approach. We are proud that we have not had an LTI at MB Century for the last five years.

We are an active participant in Staylive, an electrical and energy industry body focused on health and safety. Currently, we are a member of a working group created to develop lead indicators that best support health and safety in the energy sector.

The importance of technology and innovation in the Health and Safety space adds considerably to improving outcomes. We use technology for auditing which enables comprehensive reporting and analysis.

MB Century is committed to lifting health and safety by keeping it relevant and informative. This was evident through the recently dropped object display initiated by MB Century and delivered in partnership with a client during a significant outage.

Risk Mitigation is key for undertaking work safely and our teams are trained and competent to use our risk mitigation tools, processes and documentation to support keeping them safe.
