Training

With a modern, well equipped, onsite training room for 30+, we provide in-house training opportunities. These are based on internally developed, structured frameworks in a variety of subjects. Our latest addition is a specific turbine training course.

The structured courses increase knowledge from a basic level to a complex understanding of various specialist training subjects.

Our industry-leading approach is intended to contribute to developing a strong next generation of energy specialists.

We're totally committed to providing quality training and career development opportunities to allow MB Century and each individual to reach their full potential.

MB Century has attained the status of a Professional Development Partner in association with Engineering New Zealand (ENZ) for the continued development and mentoring of engineers within the company.

We also offer Apprenticeship Opportunities, and we're an active member of Institute Training Organisations within New Zealand to attain Unit Standards for all training undertaken within the company.

Apprentices

We develop and grow our team by:

  • Engaging apprentices to build future capability

  • Upskilling and growing the current team to address and knowledge gaps

  • Lifting technical excellence and quality

We currently have four local apprentices. This includes adult apprentices who have joined us in other roles and have requested upskilling.

Internships

Over the 2019–2020 summer period, our parent company completed its first Tuaropaki Internship Programme.

This was a collaboration with internship partners TupuToa, MedTech CoRE and ourselves, and involved seven paid internship placements.

One of the interns was Hine Jones, a Civil Engineering Graduate who worked with us over three summers. At the end of the internship, Hine commented:

"As well as practical and technical skills, I gained communication and time management/organisational skills. This experience allowed me to use the skills and knowledge I gained from my studies and apply them to real-life scenarios and projects."

Competency and knowledge

We're proud of our innovative Competency Management System. It achieves two things. First, it advances the development of our people, and second, it meets legislative requirements relating to competency.

We have developed task-specific generation focused training and competency assessments.

The system has allowed us to make a paradigm shift from 'training' to 'competency'. This is an important distinction for us. We see training and experience as an important first step to competency, not the end result.

  • We can deliver all training and experience within the system, which allows us to:

  • Set and communicate competency standards for each service area across all levels

  • Plan and accurately resource client work to ensure safe and competent workforce readiness for projects

  • Monitor and manage staff training, to ensure competency maintenance and development

  • Assess and report on staff competency

We believe we lead the industry in identifying, recording and monitoring the competency of our personnel, which delivers positive outcomes for our clients and our people.
